LIFE AS IT IS

We all have busy lives, some of us are busier than the others. We are busy with ourselves, our work, our studies, and our families. So, when you see a person taking some time, even if it’s just a minute, out of his or life to call you or to drop a line for you, consider yourself lucky. The world we live in is becoming more and more self-centered. Here, everything is becoming about me, me, and only me.

They've become strangers Not strangers really.  But when they meet in public, They pretend they never met before.  They stutter, they sweat,  They shift in their seats, Escape to a different room, Or gaze at the ceiling above.  One tries to deny the presence of the other. While she carefully turns her face, He quietly lowers his head - They see each other, and yet they cannot.  Two partners can become strangers, For love is a strange thing.  It can make two enemies friends And two friends strangers for life.  It's a strange feeling to act like a stranger With someone who was once your world.  You lived, laughed and cried together, But one day, you're left with nothing - Only some awkward feelings for one another.  © Wara Karim

I heard snow was white And snow was heavenly.  The first snowfall I witnessed Was indeed white and heavenly. That evening the sky opened, And shreds of cotton began to descend, Turning everything white.  I stood under the sky With my palms open, And my face up.  Crisp, fluffy snow Fell on my brown face.  It felt cool and powdery.  It was the winter of 2008, It was the first snowfall of my life.  © Wara Karim

I knocked on the glass Tock-tock-tock.  No one heard me, I knocked quietly.  Boys and girls in pretty clothes Went in, came out.  They went in happy.  They came out happier.  They ate ice-cream, Cold, sweet, creamy.  Chocolate, vanilla & strawberry.  Mint, caramel & blueberry. Every time the door swung open I sniffed, and I sniffed again.  Oh, the sweet aroma of ice cream! How hungry it always made me! I waited outside every day, Wishing for a miracle to happen.  But I was then too naive to understand That I was too small to be visible.  And too poor to matter.  - Wara
